Hearing Aid Styles

2 Types of Hearing Aid Styles

Hearing aid styles have evolved a lot in recent years given both medical and technological advancements.

There are now completely invisible hearing aids that fit inside the hearing canal and are completely hidden from sight.

One thing is true: studies show that hearing aids improve your quality of life and emotional well-being as well.

If you are considering hearing aids, you may be wondering what styles are available to you. This blog post will go into more detail below.

Hearing Aid Styles

Broadly speaking, there are two styles of hearing aids: the in-the-ear (ITE) style and the behind-the-ear (BTE) style.

  1. In-the-Ear Style (ITE)

These hearing aids are worn just as you would expect: in the ear. They are typically custom-fit based on an impression. They are often available in different skin tone colours so that they blend with the ear.

Within this style, there are many different styles of hearing aids as well, including invisible-in-the-canal (IIC), as mentioned above, and completely-in-the-canal (CIC) hearing aids.

There are also in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids.

  2. Behind-the-Ear Style (BTE)

The second primary style of hearing aids are the behind-the-ear style (BTE).

Behind-the-ear style hearing aids are placed behind or on top of the ear. These hearing aids have tubing that moves the sound down into the ear canal, which is done via an ear mold/ear tip that is custom-made.

Keep in mind that the ear mold/ear tip does not cover the entire ear canal opening.

These hearing aids are also available in a range of different colours to match both skin and hair colours. There are more vibrant colours to choose from as well.

Just like the other primary style of hearing aids, the behind-the-ear style of hearing aids also come in a range of different styles.

Some common examples include the receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) or the receiver-in-the-canal (RITC).

Determining the best style of hearing aid for you will depend on a range of different factors. A professional can help provide further information as to the best type of hearing aid for you.
